Muhammed T. Hussain has represented various businesses in matters involving consumer class actions, lender liability disputes, employment issues, intellectual property protection, general business litigation, business divorces, trade secret misappropriation and landlord-tenant disputes.
Mr. Hussain represents employers, property developers, business partners, and individuals in a variety of practice areas. Mr. Hussain has extensive experience with Ponzi scheme litigation, foreclosure defense, commercial real estate transactions and litigation, trade secret protection and enforcement, lender liability, and construction defect matters in both federal and state courts. He has tried multiple matters to resolution. His successes include resolving disputes, through well-negotiated settlements, or outstanding verdicts, that have exceeded $10,000,000.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Hussain graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and was on the Provost list for two academic quarters. In 2008, he received his law degree from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. While at Loyola, he was the Vice President of the Consumer Law Society. And, he also served as an extern for the Honorable David O. Carter, Judge of the United States District Court, Central District of California.
Prior to and during college, Muhammed served in the United States Air Force and the California Air National Guard. As a first-generation lawyer and an immigrant, he takes pride in supporting and giving back to the community.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Represented two relatives in a partnership dispute over a Central California farming business worth $25-50 million. Drafted corporate governing documents and reached settlement in state court to satisfy both parties in the distribution of ownership interests in farmland, other real estate, and investment accounts.
Assisted in obtaining high eight-figure settlement in L.A. Superior Court for plaintiffs alleging Ponzi scheme against large national insurer.
Assisted in obtaining $38 million jury verdict on behalf of property developer in lender liability suit. Client owned businesses in Southern California which included a hotel, a gas station, and a large strip mall.
Assisted in the successful defense of a property developer in Santa Barbara at jury trial against charges of misrepresentation and investment irregularities pursued by one of the client’s investors, with approximately $3 million at stake.
Helped negotiate an eight-figure settlement for small movie producer against large media conglomerate, for copyright infringement related to an animated scene.
Successfully helped secure return of copyrights to the original members of a musical group after another band member had gone on to use their music without proper licensing and fees.
Helped obtain a multi-million-dollar settlement for individual client against national fitness chain, alleging failure to pay proper wages to trainers in accordance with state and federal law.
Negotiated two settlements on behalf of shopping mall developer in Northern California in lender liability case, obtaining six-figure amount from receiver and seven-figure amount from lender.
Represented elderly, disabled woman in regaining ownership of her home after her son transferred the property through coercion. Obtained settlement of $600k in addition to the $450k value of the property.
Obtained judgment on behalf of wholesale bakery in trade secrets matter after a former employee of the business stole recipes and customer lists (one of which was originally purchased by the client for $600k).
Successfully appealed the granting of non-suit against client where the court dismissed an action by a contractor against an insurance broker for failing to procure insurance coverage that would have covered theft by an employee. The trial court had dismissed the case by stating that the employee was hired by one plaintiff, while the loss was sustained by the other plaintiff. The court of appeal disagreed, and found that the employer plaintiff was the one that had also sustained the loss. DuCoing Management, Inc. v. Superior Court, 234 Cal. App. 4th 306 (Cal. App. 4th Dist. 2015).
