Laura H. Park joined Roxborough & Associates originally as a law clerk during law school and as one of our original associates. She was part of the litigation team for several of the landmark workers’ compensation bad faith decisions against the State Compensation Insurance Fund (“SCIF”) including Courtesy Ambulance v. SCIF, Tricor, Inc. v. SCIF, Security Officers v. SCIF, and Notrica’s 32nd Street Market v. SCIF (citations omitted).
Ms. Park went on to expand her legal perspective and horizon by working as a Senior Associate at a Los Angeles-based defense firm specializing in business and real estate law where she won several motions for summary judgment dismissing frivolous lawsuits against real estate brokers/agents. Next, as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for a medical device start-up company, Ms. Park was intimately involved with the raising of capital and the regulatory approval of their disruptive robotic surgical tools. In addition, Ms. Park oversaw the marketing and sales teams on their successful launch.
After returning to full time litigation, Ms. Park rejoined RPNA as a Senior Associate Litigator armed the wealth of wisdom of her diverse experiences and knowledge for RPNA’s clients. Ms. Park is the ultimate professional and people-person.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Assisted in the preparation of several bad faith workers’ compensation trials which resulted in several six-figure compensatory and seven- and eight-figure punitive damage awards against the State Compensation Insurance Fund.
- Filed over a dozen class action lawsuits against workers’ compensation insurance carriers.
- Successfully defended employers against claims of discrimination, wrongful termination and other employment and litigation matters
- Raised over $12 million for a medical device robotic start-up company.
- Prepared dozens of Temporary Restraining Orders pro bono for victims of domestic violence through the Los Angeles Superior Court- Domestic Violence Clinic, Santa Monica,
- Successfully launched an FDA approved robotic surgical device.
AWARDS & RECOGNITION
Ms. Park received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1994 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California during which she was honored to intern for the Honorable Sheila Khuel and the California Women’s Law Society. While at Loyola, Ms. Park was the recipient of the following scholarships: Korean American Bar Association Scholarship, Japanese American Bar Association Scholarship, Southern California Chinese Lawyers’ Association Scholarship, Women’s Organization Reaching Koreans Scholarship, Loyola Minority Scholarship, and Loyola Diversity Scholarship.
Ms. Park graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Law and Society. During her tenure at UCSB, Ms. Park spear-headed the “Korean Studies Now” movement which resulted in the addition of 2 new Korean American professors and various Korean studies courses. She was also one of the Founders of the Asian American Pre-Law Society and a leader of SCORE (“Student Coalition for Racial Equality”). Based on her extensive activism and leadership while at UCSB, Ms. Park was honored to be chosen as the Student Commencement Speaker during the 1991 Commencement ceremony and was the recipient of the Yong Yun Scholarship and the Korean Senior Citizens Mutual Club Scholarship.
